ETHETICS (ethics+aesthetics) is a series exploring and celebrating ethical and socially responsible brands around the world. We're dedicated to the telling of alluring stories that provoke the eco-conscious and the eco-curious. Created by Amber Moelter & Luis Barreto Carrillo (aka Noir Tribe), in partnership with the International Trade Centre's Ethical Fashion Initiative. In the second episode of Ethetics we showcase standout looks from the Lukyanho Mdingi & Nicholas Coutts A/W16 Tactile Collection in three different South African landscapes, from a barren desert to a lush mountainside on models Gandhi Mukiza and Yannick Konan. The MDINGI COUTTS A/W17 TACTILE Collection was showcased at the Generation Africa show produced by Pitti Immagine and the Ethical Fashion Initiative. With Coutts’s distinct weaving technique and Mdingi’s traditionalist approach to minimalism and classic basics; the two used Africa’s natural landscape as a means to conceptualize the overall aesthetic of the collection. ETHETICS Episode 2: MDINGI COUTTS premiered at the BAFTA Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival 2016 and premiered online at Vogue Italia (vogue.it/en/vogue-talents/video-lab/2016/12/22/ethetics-ethical-fashion-initiative-noir-tribe-akjp-mdingi-coutts). It won Best Cinematography at the Mercedes-Benz Bokeh South African Fashion Film Festival, where it was also nominated for Best Documentary and Best Fashion. It won Best Styling at Mexico Fashion Film Festival and is an Official Selection at fashion film festivals in New York, Canada, Copenhagen, and Berlin, where it is Shortlisted for Best US & Canada Film. It has also been invited to screen at the Academy Award-Qualifying Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Tokyo, Japan. JOIN THE ETHETICAL REVOLUTION www.ethetics.com

I Am An Individual celebrates unique human identities through five personal stories of love, appearance, friendship, empowerment, and dreams. Each chapter is a true story, told to us by the models themselves, inspired by their own life experiences releasing from life’s labels, stigmas, and conventions. "Nikola’s story: The Only Label" On an open field of grass, Nikola and Yoselin slowly walk towards each other, representing the long journey Nikola took for love. "Jekill’s story: Not a Shell" In a world which rewards conventions and is harsh to women who challenge them, Jekill refuses to compromise her appearance. "Ruta’s story: The Moon" Ruta was lonely and unsure of her identity. At a club she finds a friend, and more. "Leslie’s story: Seed" Leslie overcame bullying at a young age with her mother’s help. She, in turn, hopes to provide inspiration for other women. "Esteban’s story: Passim" A circus show captured Esteban’s imagination as a child and since then he hasn’t stopped dreaming, releasing labels and stigmas along the way. We're dedicated to the telling of alluring stories that provoke the eco-conscious and the eco-curious. Created by Amber Moelter & Luis Barreto Carrillo (aka Noir Tribe), in partnership with the International Trade Centre's Ethical Fashion Initiative. In our first episode of Ethetics, Keith Henning gives us a tour of the AKJP Collective, which showcases designs from a range of talented South African makers, including Episode 2 designers Lukhanyo Mdingi and Nicholas Coutts. Back at his studio he introduces some of his team and shares with us the AKJP AW16 menswear collection, inspired by artist Georgina Gratrix’s art and impasto brushwork. After a trip to the Woodheads leathery we end up at the SvenMill factory, where their jacquard is made. We had the incredible opportunity to show some of the standouts of the AW16 menswear collection in the environment in which it was made, on model Martin Gareth Magner. ETHETICS Episode 1: AKJP premiered at the BAFTA Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival 2016 and premiered online at Vogue Italia (http://www.vogue.it/en/vogue-talents/video-lab/2016/12/22/ethetics-ethical-fashion-initiative-noir-tribe-akjp-mdingi-coutts).
